| Emil with the family c. 1920. He was probably 15 years old at the taking of this picture. |
Date of Birth
Emil was born on March 1, 1905, just before the family's emigration to the United States. This date, given in the family Bible, is confirmed by four official American documents: the 1910 and 1930 United States Federal Censuses, the New York Passenger List for the S.S. Potsdam, and the Social Security Death Index.
Place of Birth
Like his mother and two sisters, Katarina and Amelia, Emil was born in Holland, probably in Rotterdam.
Arrival in America
Emil was only three months old when he immigrated to America through Ellis Island and went to join his father in Baltimore. Read the whole story here.
Marriage
Emil married Emma (maiden name ?) prior to 1930. I know this because his marital status in the 1930 census was "married," and to my knowledge he had no spouse other than Emma. He was 25 in 1930, so this means he married young.
Children
I am not aware of any.

| Emil and wife Emma with Albert and Santa Norgran and Alfred and Virginia (Norgran) Burke, c. 1940's. |
Residence
After moving to the United States, Emil lived in Baltimore for the rest of his life.
Death
Emil died on February 11, 1978 at the age of 72. This date is given in the Social Security Death Index. I do not know the cause of death, but Mom Mom thinks that he suffered a heart attack while washing his car.
Remembrances (of my grandmother, Emil's niece)
Mom Mom didn't know Uncle Emil well. She only remembers that he was very nice, as was Aunt Emma.Source Citations
