Amelia (Norgran) ?

*Help! This posting is incomplete. More information is needed!*

Amelia with the rest of the family, c. 1920. She had her 17th birthday that year.

Date of Birth

Amelia was born on the 3rd of August, 1903. The family Bible and 1910 United States Federal Census agree on this date.

Place of Birth

Like her older sister, Katarina, and younger brother, Emil, Amelia was born in Holland prior to the trip to Ellis Island. The city was likely Rotterdam.

Name at Birth

Though her name was spelled "Amilia" in the family Bible, all official records in the United States use the mainstream "Amelia." My grandmother remembers the family calling her by the nickname "Mel," pronounced like the middle syllable of her name.

Arrival in America

The full story can be read at Anna's profile. Amelia was not yet two years old at the time. She, with her mother and siblings, joined her father in Baltimore and remained a resident there until her death.

Marriage

This is where my information begins to break down. I know that Amelia married, but I do not know when, and I do not know her husbands last name. The extent of my information, which is based on my grandmother's memory, is that her husband was called Walter, and he was a merchant marine.

Children

This subject is similarly cloudy. All I have to go on is that she bore one son, named Donald.

Residence

Mom Mom remembers Aunt "Mel" living across the street from Aunt Virginia, in Baltimore.

Death

The date of death that I have, taken from the Burke Family Tree, is the 4th of September, 1973. I do not officially know the cause. Mom Mom thinks it may have had to do with some cancer in her leg.

Remembrances (of my grandmother, niece to Amelia)

Mom Mom didn't know Amelia very well, so she only has snatches of memories:
Aunt "Mel" was a strict housekeeper. She would scrub the floors and then put newspapers down to keep them clean. She had fiery red hair.
